At the start of it all Julie was talked into getting a loan, and in February of 1995 Julie James purchased Today's Tan & Tone. Todays Tan & Tone started in what was a small room used by 4 hair dressers, 1 nail technician, and had 4 small tanning rooms. Even though it was a hole-in-the-wall and an unpleasant sight, the rent was cheap. Julie knew little about running a business, but she put her business before play and quickly learned how to manage money and her staff. She credits her loyal staff as a reason for her successful business. Many of them have worked together for years and built friendships. Julie’s goal is to be a place where anyone can come to be pampered and feel good.
In 2004, the photography studio next door moved out. Julie decided to create the Day Spa. With the help of her husband's construction crew, family and staff, they gutted and remodeled the vacant space. That space became the Salon, Massage and Tanning side. Work was done to the original side as well and it housed Today's Day Spa, which offers a full selection of Day Spa services. The business became known as Today's Full Service Salon and Day Spa.
In late 2010 Julie had a chance to move into a new and improved location just down the street from where it all began. Built with a full day spa in mind the new building would increase space by over 1000 sq ft and upgrade almost every aspect of the day spa, nail and pedicure areas, hair areas and even reception. It has full locker rooms with showers and steam rooms in each, a dedicated reflection area for relaxing in the new day spa area. Multi-point ventilation has been added to the nail areas to significantly decrease the smell of acrylic nail work and the hair area now has a view of the Willamette River through its full wall of windows. At the same time Julie also had the opportunity to take over a failed tanning business in the North Albany area so now there is tanning available in two locations, with a handful of beds at the main location and the remainder of beds located at the new tanning location in North Albany.
As of 2010, Today's Salon & Day Spa employs 18 hair dressers, 9 nail technicians, 5 facial technicians, 4 masseuses, and has 9 tanning beds. Hair color is our specialty, and nearly 90% of their clients come in for related jobs. We also do haircuts, perms, straightenings, updos, and more. Aside from hair, Today's offers Nail services, Skin services, Waxing, Spa Body Treatments, Massage and of course Tanning! Today's is a popular venue for wedding parties, pedicure parties, prom days, or social time. For events and parties, the staff will work with you to supply food, drinks, and secure space for your needs. Above all, Today's is a friendly salon where you can laugh and have a good time.
